Blogs / Vlogs - Tool of Corporate Communication for Marketing and Brand Building: Key Skills for Developing Impactful Blogs

Blogs are dynamic online journals or regularly updated web pages or websites where individuals or organizations post articles, stories, opinions, and information on diverse topics. They serve as digital platforms for sharing content and engaging with audiences. Blogs can cover a wide range of topics, from personal diaries to professional insights, tutorials, reviews, and news. Blogs are typically updated frequently with new posts to keep the audience engaged and coming back for more information. Blogs often allow readers to leave comments and share posts, fostering interaction and community building. Blogs can improve a website’s search engine rankings by regularly providing fresh content and incorporating relevant keywords. Individuals use blogs to share firsthand experiences or hobbies, while businesses and organizations use them for marketing, brand building, and establishing thought leadership. Blog posts can include text, images, videos, infographics, and links to other resources, making them versatile tools for communication. Hence, Blogs serve as platforms for content creation, dissemination, and interaction, benefiting both individual bloggers and organizations in several ways.

Vlogs, short for video blogs or video logs, are a type of blog where the content is primarily presented in video format rather than text that offers a dynamic and engaging way to share content, connect with audiences, and build a personal or brand presence online. Vlogs are a popular medium for sharing information, individual experiences, opinions, and creative content through videos. Vlogs primarily consist of video recordings that can include talking directly to the camera, showcasing activities, tutorials, interviews, or event coverage. Vloggers often create a personal connection with their audience by sharing their daily lives, thoughts, and experiences, making the content relatable and engaging.

Vlogs are typically hosted on video-sharing platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, and social media sites like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. The quality of vlogs can vary from simple, unedited videos shot with a smartphone to professionally produced content with high-quality cameras, lighting, and editing. Viewers can interact with vloggers through comments, likes, shares, and subscriptions, fostering community and engagement. Vlogs cover a wide range of topics, including travel, fashion, beauty, technology, fitness, education, cooking, and more. Many vloggers monetize their content through advertisements, sponsorships, merchandise sales, and fan contributions. Successful vloggers, known as influencers, can reach large audiences and have a significant impact on trends, opinions, and consumer behaviour.

Hence, blogs serve as a powerful tool for corporate communication by providing a platform for organizations to share updates, insights, and information with both internal and external audiences. Regular blog posts can keep stakeholders informed about company news, product developments, and industry trends, fostering transparency and trust. By publishing authoritative content on industry-related topics, companies can establish themselves as thought leaders and experts in their field. Internal blogs can be used to engage employees, share company culture, highlight achievements, and promote internal communication.

Blogs are highly relevant in marketing and brand building, as regularly updated blogs with relevant keywords can improve search engine rankings, drive organic traffic, and increase visibility. Blogs can educate customers about products, services, and industry-related topics, aiding in informed decision-making and demonstrating the company's expertise. Blogs that provide valuable content attract potential customers, especially in B2B and D2C business models, who can be converted into leads through call-to-action (CTA) buttons, subscription forms, and gated content offers. Blogs can also play a significant role in nurturing leads through informative and engaging posts. Blogs also provide an opportunity for companies to showcase their brand personality, values, and voice, helping to create a strong and relatable brand identity. By enabling direct interaction with the audience through comments and social media sharing, blogs also foster a sense of community and engagement, which go a long way in building brand loyalty.

Group Discussion (GD): Tips to Prepare and Effective Participation

Group discussion (GD) is a test of interactive skills in a group setting. It is a tool usually employed for elimination rather than selection. Organizations make use of this tool to assess the group dynamics of a candidate based on his communication and interpersonal interaction and to reduce the pool of candidates lined up for personal interviews. The strength of a group for a GD usually varies between eight and twelve, and the atmosphere ranges from feigned teamwork and forced camaraderie to unbridled warfare and uncivilized mayhem. While participating in a GD, the candidates are expected to be able to not only articulate their viewpoint effectively but also to understand the other person's point of view while making their point and ensuring that the team as a whole reaches a win-win situation, a solution/agreement that is both feasible and accepted by all members of the team. Thus, a GD is a simulated managerial setting, and its evaluation parameters can be categorized into tw...
